The coroner shall investigate sudden, unexplained, and violent deaths that occur within his/her jurisdiction. The coroner shall determine whether any death resulted from criminal acts or criminal neglect of persons other than the deceased. The statutory authority of the coroner is found in the county code 16 P.S. 1231-1260.
Funeral Directors
Any death that occurs within the county that the final disposition is cremation, burial at sea or donation requires approval per County Code: Section 1237 A.9
Complete the Cremation Authorization Request Form, fax request form along with a copy of a completed certified copy of death to (570) 296-2700. A written authorization will be faxed back upon the completion of the investigation. The Cremation Authorization fee, due upon receipt of authorization, is $50, made payable to “County of Pike”, and mailed to Pike County Coroner, 405 West Harford St., Milford, PA 18337.
Death Certificates
This office does not provide certified copies of death certificates. If you are looking for a death certificate for someone who died in Pennsylvania, you must contact the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records. You can contact them by phone at 570-963-4595.

SECTION 1236.1
(c)The coroner may charge and collect a fee of up to $500 for each autopsy report, up to $100 for each toxicology report, up to $100 for each inquisition or coroner's report, and such other fees as may be established from time to time for other reports and documents requested by non-governmental agencies. The fees collected shall be accounted for and paid to the county treasurer pursuant to section 1760 and shall be used to defray the expenses involved in the county complying with the provisions of the act of March 2, 1988 (P.L. 108, No. 22), referred to as the Coroners' Education Board Law.
