National County Government Month Department Spotlight- Workforce Development Agency

The Pike County Workforce Development Agency bridges the gap between employers and job seekers through close working relationships with local partners involved in workforce and economic development. The agency is federally funded and operates under the guidelines set forth in the Workforce Investment Act.  

The Workforce Development Agency meets the needs of local and regional employers while helping to create a well-prepared labor pool. Agency staff provide a high level of service by increasing accessibility to information and reducing the barriers and confusion faced by both employers and job seekers. 

The Pike County Workforce Development Agency provides many services at no cost to job seekers:

Online Resources
The agency provides links to many remote activity resources on its webpage, which may be beneficial to job seekers. Links include videos and activities that can aid job seekers in learning about professional possibilities, discovering careers that may be a good job fit, assessing their skills, improving interview techniques, improving financial literacy, and many more.

Job Fairs and Hiring Events
To connect employers and job seekers, the agency organizes job fairs and hiring events both at its office located at 837 Route 6, Unit 2, Shohola, PA 18458, and throughout the community. Events such as these are held numerous times throughout the year. 

WORKING PIKE 
The 5th annual WORKING PIKE Job Fair was recently held on April 5, 2022, at the Best Western Inn at Hunts Landing located in Matamoras, PA. This was the 5th job fair organized by the WORKING PIKE committee, a group dedicated to building a stronger community through partnership of government, community, and faith-based organizations.  

The event was filled to capacity with more than 72 employers from the tri-state area in attendance and nearly 500 job seekers from Pike, Monroe, Wayne, Sullivan, Orange, and Sussex Counties. Available jobs varied from entry level to managerial in industries including healthcare, hospitality, financial, manufacturing, warehouse, law enforcement/corrections, recreational, sales and many more. 


Workshops and Trainings
The agency offers a variety of workshops to the public such as resume reviews and interview skill building. Occupational skill trainings may be available to qualified individuals entering or reentering the workforce. Funding may also be available for short-term training in high priority occupations. Call the office to inquire about the upcoming workshop schedule or to learn about upcoming opportunities.
